In the late 1980s it became obvious there was demand for a larger, bluewater capable luxury cruiser Eddy decided to build one as a suitable successor to the Zeston, The first Buizen 48' pilothouse cruiser was born In 1991 and the first Buizen 40' in 1996.

"Calling the yacht a pilothouse yacht was the modem name for a motor-sailer and more In keeping with the boat too," said Eddy. As one would expect given the design brief, the Buizens are big, beamy boats. Sail rather than motor dominates, however, and they have impressive masthead rigs with genoas and an attractive, streamlined hull shape. The sail plan has been well thought out. A retractable inner forestay to give you more options is just one feature serious cruisers will like.

Almost everything that can be push button is, including the in-boom furling main. If the weather is unkind you don't even have to get wet: you can steer the boat from the saloon, which boasts 3600 views and is In turn only a short step from the galley. Interaction is easy and there is none of the closed-in, compartmentalised feeling you get on some yachts.

Accommodation

The spacious deck saloon. just two steps down from the cockpit, Is the heart of the living area. Here you can sit comfortably in the deeply padded lounge in an atmosphere enhanced by the softness of the tinted safety glass windows and the deep glow of the handcrafted teak timberwork. With an excellent cocktail cabinet and a quality, in-built stereo system, relaxation's unavoidable.

Featuring a large. built-in freezer, fridge. gas top oven and pressurised hot/cold water system, the open-plan ship's galley on the lower fore deck would satisfy the most fastidious of chefs. For'ard in the large owner's cabin are built-in robes. toilet shower and vanity. The second guest cabin has two single berths and another toilet and shower.

Aft of the saloon are two further sleeping cabins - one a luxurious double-berth cabin with dresser and hanging locker, the other a single berth cabin with navigation table and chart locker, In all, the yacht sleeps seven in genuine comfort, without the fuss of having to disturb the saloon to procure extra bunks. Now that's luxury!

On Deck

The strongly supported masthead rig features an in-boom furler with electric / hydraulic drive. The Genoa also furls away In a matter of seconds. Electric / haudraulic powered winches takes the hard work out of sheeting home the headsail and up for'ard a heavy duty electric anchor winch raises and lowers the anchor. The Buizen 40's traditional hand-crafted teak gunwale and laid teal cockpit planking are standard. Teak planking on the side docks and boarding platform is available as an option.
